as is the case with fellow �enforcers�-turned-producers, henry �junjo� lawes and philip �fatis� burrell, george phang had been involved in the internecine street battles that had split kingston into rival politically-aligned zones during the 1970s, when the broader effects of cold war politics were played out in jamaica. following some encouragement from sly and robbie, phang changed focus, putting the politics aside to concentrate on music production, becoming one of the most important producers of the early 1980s in the process. phang took over the rhythm twins� power house label around 1982, and with the duo forming the mainstays of his productions, the result was guaranteed audio dynamite, as this killer devotional track by barrington levy from 1983 so amply suggests�a beautiful extended slice of late roots, heading towards the emerging dancehall style.

the third and final part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings two more hot productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe. the tune �rifyx� is taken from desvarieux�s 1985 album �oh madiana� and delivers arresting jazz-funk and zouk-suspense enlarged with touching horns, synth-enthusiasm and longing female vocals. the second song comes from the paris based, west cameroon born singer tala, produced by desvarieux for tala�s album �mother africa� in 1982. also here desvarieux tuned the synthesizers odd and edgy to let them dance with an afro styled rhythm. above all tala sings sexy with a chorus of girls while percussions go crazy and the sounds of horns are longing for the sky. on top of everything endless flight asked again the japanese producer kuniyuik to edit a desvarieux track. he chose �rifyx� and tuned it into an epic soulful eight minutes long dream house anthem that funks all dancers crazy. hotter than hot stuff here!

pi.002 is a 12&#8243,,, heavyweight black vinyl lp written and produced by h&#8721,,,rm&#8721,,,s, first album of the artist and also on the label. work that assembles the soundscape from primal instinct forward into a harsh avant garde sound. almost human is the name of it, and consists in a 11 track album with a strong concept behind it. as the artist has baptism, -necronoise- aesthetics englobes dogma, metaphysics, poetic terrorism and theology as a manifesto regarding the learning of dying as a purification in life.

for its very first vinyl release after 2 years of activity in the digital realm, experimental ambient label arythmic records from strasbourg (france) did a rather bold choice by putting its hopes into a local techno artist well known for its open-mindedness and creativity: letherique. after over a year of various experiments, the best ideas were selected and compiled into a series of 3 eps, each one dedicated to a particular vibe. the first part is about the more synthetic and futuristic outcome. the second one will be rather dark and organic. finally, the third and last one will be about the more experimental and minimalistic remainder. taking from many influences way beyond the world of casual techno music, letherique ended up crafting unexpected techno tunes, usually starting with an ambient base on which he couldnÕt help himself adding beats in order to develop what he knew best. after years of activity in the dark, he needed something a little bit special to put into what he could proudly call his first ep as a testament of his passion for the infinite realms of the electronic music genre. these were the perfect fit.

d-operation drop is a 6-man crew from cesena, italy with a strong and growing catalog of sound system killers, from orthodox steppers to dubstep abstractions and strange hybrids of the two. recent releases on moonshine, artikal, and lion charge have cemented their position, and we are thrilled to invite them into the zamzam fold with two chunks of 140 weight. �warrior march� opens with a mesmerizing pad that immediately draws the unsuspecting into a unique soundworld and doesn�t let go til the runout groove. a smeared, chopping-block snare, deep subsonic rumblings, swung percussion, massed yet minimal horns make a darkly coiled track, menacing yet full of funk and movement. �sativa team� captivates just as deeply with fewer moving parts, loping drums and leaden percussion, churning bassline, chopped and glitched ja-voices and sound tape, and ominous, clipped horns that wobble with tape delay in a strange airless void. brooding yet cathartic, tripped out but fully physical, with both tunes d-operation drop display their total control over a restrained and powerful palette.

for the third installment of the ftp series, the tracks twist into darker genre territories. the compilation opens with psygnosis, a nine minute acidic techno stormer beaming from the pineal gland of the reclusive new zealand artist matthew brown. the track starts out with a simple hook, building intensity towards a crescendo of raining acid lines and 808 hi hats which resemble unsheathing swords, twisting form into hypnotizing insanity. on the b side, draveng unleashes some comic mischief with isogamous skoliosapien, a frantic rave tune bursting out of the seams with jazzy drum hits and frantic chord stabs. it would be a good soundtrack for phantasms to dance to in a haunted place. closing out the ep is the propulsive electro missile nonstop, a track that whips into the air and spins like a jet powered boomerang. it is is the first release from the finnish cyber-phreek sansibar. expect more to come from him in the very near future

released in 2008, this outstanding album was never pressed on vinyl. it contains some of juana molina s most rhythmic pieces (including the epic title track), and saw her dig deeper into electronic textures. un día was juana s final album for the domino label . pitchfork decided that it was as warm and welcoming as it is weird, all music guide calls it as experimental as björk s but much more inviting. for rolling stone us, this album is her most adventurous, combining avant-garde vocals with the atmospherics of portishead and my bloody valentine. and french music bible les inrockuptibles wrote: a real album of trance music which, like with john coltrane or nusrat fateh ali khan, doesn t aim for a loss of consciousness but rather for reaching a higher level of knowledge

when he proceeded further into the production process, he limited himself using the computer less and instead learning to trust his intuition, the flow of his fingers and to use his own voice as an instrument. this led to an album that is rather hard to pin down genre-wise but even easier to connect to emotionally when you listen to it from start to finish.
